A quick headshot of Nightbeat.

A tip of the nod to the first part of Matrix Quest and The Big Shutdown.

A4 card, non photo blue pencil, faber castell pitt pen (c - if anyone is interested) and a sharpie.

Out of the newer characters introduced in the latter stages of the comic, he was one I took a shine to. Him and Siren, made a good double-act. Hosehead was entirely superfluous though.

Nightbeat became my absolute favorite Transformer from the moment I read the first issue of the Matrix Quest arc, and you've made him look like a total heart throb! :XD: Gotta love the trenchcoat/fedora look on him, it's always fun to see him giving a nod to the godfather of crime noir detectives, Humphrey Bogart.
I really like how you've taken the old school approach with the inking style, the little hatches along the lines remind me of Geoff Senior's work. :)

Thanks. He's an enjoyable character to draw.

Without all the G2 bells and whistles and modern styles that have accrued over the years my default approach to drawing Transformers is a halfway house between Geoff and the animation models.

Glad you liked it.

You betcha. :)

I only read the first few G2 issues (if I recall correctly I don't think it even lasted that long), but I was really inspired by the inking style, it's so gritty and sharp, makes for a dark look. I've a feeling that anyone in the Transformers comic books these days would be lying if they said they weren't influenced by Geoff Senior in one way or another, there's just something about his simplistic style that really sticks with ya. :D

Not just the simplicity, but the dynamism of his art. He's up there with Kirby and Simonson for sheer energy on the page.
